13 NIGHT 14 DAYS TOUR

DAY 1 – COLOMBO

You will be welcomed by a representative of Ebert Silva Holidays at the Bandaranaike International Airport and transferred to Colombo. Enjoy an open deck sightseeing experience in the city on board the ‘Colombo City Tour’.

Overnight stay in Colombo.

 

DAY 2 – YAPAHUWA / ANURADHAPURA

After breakfast, you will travel to visit the heritage city of Anuradhapura. En route, visit Yapahuwa, a citadel and brief capital of the island. Explore the interesting remains of a rock fortress, royal palace and Buddhist temple where the ornate stairway leading to the Palace with its intricate carvings stand testament to the superior and outstanding talent of the craftsmen of the era.

Witness the extensive ruins of Anuradhapura, the first capital of the island. Known as the cradle of the glorious Sinhalese Buddhist civilization, this grand kingdom will undoubtedly offer you many memorable sightseeing highlights.

DAY 3 – ANURADHAPURA

After breakfast continue to explore the sprawling ruins of Anuradhapura.

Visit to the sacred ‘Jaya Sri Maha Bodhi Tree’ the oldest recorded human-planted tree in the world. It is most sacred to Buddhists around the world as it flourishes from the tree under which ascetic Siddhartha attained enlightenment as Gautama Buddha. The Aukana Buddha Statue is a delightful highlight among other amazing attractions.

Later in the day visit Mihintale the mountain peak near Anuradhapura where Buddhism was first introduced to Sri Lanka.

DAY 4 – POLONNARUWA

Visit the historical city of Polonnaruwa, which was the second capital of Sri Lanka for three centuries. The gigantic ruins even today echo the glory and splendor of the Kingdom during which the prosperity of the island made it be known as the “Granary of the East”.

Transfer to Sigiriya.  Overnight stay in Sigiriya.

 

DAY 5 – SIGIRIYA

After breakfast visit the fascinating world wonder Sigiriya. This must see Rock Fortress leaves the visitor spellbound with its amazing architecture, engineering and art of the 5th century AD. Thereafter, you will proceed to visit the Dambulla Cave Temple which comprises of five large caves adorned with Buddha statues, colorful paintings and well-preserved religious works of art. Both Sigiriya and Dambulla are UNESCO declared World Heritage Sites.

DAYS 6, 7 & 8 – MATALE / KANDY

After breakfast begin your journey to visit the island’s beautiful cultural capital and the last Royal Kingdom of Kandy. En route you will visit the Matale Alu Vihara Cave Temple that dates back to the 4th century BC. The temple has great religious and historical significance to Buddhists as it is the venue where the teachings of the Buddha – the Tripitaka – were written for the first time.

Arrive in Kandy and enjoy the evening being mesmerized by the Kandyan Dance and Drum Show at a local auditorium. You will witness captivating traditional dancing and drumming which embodies the essence of the Kandyan Kingdom.

DAY 7 – KANDY

Visit the Temple of the sacred Tooth Relic, the most revered site in Sri Lanka for Buddhists and known locally as the ‘Sri Dalada Maligawa’. Overlooking the beautiful Kandy Lake the temple, a majestic embodiment of the island’s grand heritage is adjacent to the royal palace complex of the former Kingdom of Kandy.

Visit the ‘Three Temple Loop’ that offers three distinct temples closely located to each other. The Gadaladeniya, Embekke and Lankathilake Temples are perhaps the finest examples of the Period’s Buddhist heritage, exceptional craftsmanship and remarkable artistry.

DAY 8 – KANDY

A memorable experience awaits you on the final day in Kandy as you visit the Dambana Vaddah Village. It is the primary home of the last surviving aboriginal people of the island located 20 kms from Mahiyangana.

Visit the Mahiyangana Temple, one of the most important places in the history of Buddhism in the island being the location of Lord Buddha’s first visit to the island.

DAY 9 – NUWARA ELIYA

Travel to the beautiful garden city of Nuwara Eliya, enjoying the picturesque sceneries with numerous cascading waterfalls including the Ramboda Falls on the way.

Visit the Pedro Tea Factory and witness the lush tea plantations of the central hills.

DAY 10 – ELLA

After breakfast, travel to Ella, en route view the beautiful Ravana Falls which is among the widest of Sri Lanka’s waterfalls and a popular tourist attraction. Witness the grand Nine Arch Bridge, also known as the Bridge in the Sky which is a glorious man-made masterpiece.

DAY 11 – UDAWALAWA

After breakfast travel to Udawalawa. In the evening enjoy a thrilling safari at the Udawalawa National Park which has an impressive concentration of animals across its open savannah plains. The most noted is its large and stable elephant population with which you are sure to have some exciting encounters.

DAY 12 – GALLE

After breakfast leave for the heritage city of Galle. While on your journey you will get the opportunity of visiting the fish market in Weligama where hundreds of colorful boats bring their night’s catch from the ocean. It is an interesting venue to observe the local culture.

You can also witness the unique technique of ‘stilt fishing’ used by the village fishermen to cast their lines out while cleverly balancing themselves on 20 – 50 meter poles in shallow waters.

DAY 13 – GALLE

After breakfast, you will explore the Galle Dutch Fort, an iconic part of the island’s Dutch history. Enjoy at leisure the World Heritage City of Galle. The Dutch Reformed Church, the Clock Tower, National Maritime Museum and the Galle Light House are among many other interesting monuments you will able to explore in Galle.

After lunch visit the Turtle Hatchery in Hikkaduwa. It is a unique welfare center which helps to protect endangered sea turtles.  Enjoy a delightful boat safari along the Maduganga River thereafter. The boat safari will take you along winding waterways and pristine mangrove forests and many islands all in a stunning safari setting. Relish in a relaxing Fish Spa Therapy, a natural foot massage from hundreds of fish. Sitting on a pier, you only have to plunge your feet into the water for the colorful fish to start nibbling and start the therapy.

 

DAY 14 – COLOMBO

After breakfast travel to Colombo, the commercial capital of the island. Depending on your flight schedule enjoy an exciting open deck city sightseeing experience on board the ‘Colombo City Tour’ and visit the National Museum located in the heart of the city. Being the island’s most notable museum it will showcase an enormous amount of antiques, cultural objects and artifacts that portray the rich history and heritage of the island nation.

It has been a delightful two weeks in Sri Lanka and we come to the end of your amazing vacation where you will be guided to the airport for your onward journey.
